It's Monday. What are you reading? 06 Aug 2012

It's Monday. What are you Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by Book Journey to outline what you have been reading and what you plan to read this week.

I know I have been a bit quiet recently but it's been with good reason as I have been frantically trying to get my work done so I can go on holiday! Yep two more days and I will be sunning myself in the beautiful island of Rarotonga. My blog will be able to live up to it's name! ;)

I will keep this relatively brief because of that reason. I am currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall (Anne Bronte) but I don't think I'm going to finish it before I head overseas and I don't feel like it's quite the right book to take with me.

Instead I'm looking at taking I Capture The Castle (Dodie Smith) and The Blind Assassin (Margaret Atwood).

What do you think - are they good beach reads? I like a book that I can get lost in and has a bit of depth but does allow me to jump in and out of the story without getting confused as to where I was. Would these two books fit into that category? I'm not sure if Atwood is the best one to take. Interested to know your thoughts.

I also stopped off at my favourite second hand book shop and picked up these titles

A Prayer for Owen Meany (John Irving)
Never Let Me Go (Kazuo Ishiguro)
A Suitable Boy (Vikram Seth)
A Widow for One Year (John Irving)

Maybe one of these would be better for my trip? Although I don't think I'm going to attempt to get a brick like A Suitable Boy into a suitcase! What do you think? What should I take on holiday with me?!

Other options for a holiday book include:

The Poisonwood Bible (Barbara Kingsolver)
Wolf Hall (Hilary Mantel)
The Lacuna (Barbara Kingsolver)

I will be offline for about a week and a half but I promise to upload at least one beach snap for you to get jealous over.

My favorite read last week was My favorite read last week was I Was Told There'd Be Cake by (audio) by Sloane Crosley which I listened to on my way to and from work Please come see what else I'm reading.
I hope you have a great holiday. I am not sure I Capture The Castle is an easy book to put down, I'd take the John Irving books

Wishing you a great reading week!

Great choices of novels, but all would be a little heavy for me to read while on vacation. I tend to get easily distracted while I'm reading in another place. Hope you can find just the right books for your trip.

Here's my It's Monday! What Are You Reading? I hope you will stop by!
I'm reading A Suitable Boy right now for a readalong and it is a wonderful book, if a bit heavy for holiday reading! Have you read The Poisionwood Bible before? If not, I say take that, it would be a great holiday read as it's light enough but still has some meat in the story.
The Blind Assassin has been on my bookshelf for a while. I hope to get to it soon. I look forward to reading your thoughts on it.
Happy Reading!

Hmmm... I have just started Wolf Hall and if you do have a long while to sit and read, I think that would be great! (*As long you are a Tudor name dropping officianado and can recognize who they are talking about without being told who they are talking about!)
Enjoy your Holiday! Here's my Monday post
I've heard great things about John Irving. Never read him but I've heard he's pretty good!

Happy reading this week!!!
Check out what I'm reading and enter for a giveaway!
First of all, have a wonderful vacation! Second, I'd probably take the Irving books along. I loved Wolf Hall but it's a bit dense and has a lot of characters, etc. It would probably be a bit hard to jump in and out of.

Have a great week!
Thanks for all the help. I think I'm leaning towards I Capture The Castle and A Prayer for Owen Meany now.
I loved The Blind Assassin, but it took me a while to get into it. It jumps between time lines and characters. It's sort of a complex book, but a really good one if you have time to commit to it.
