Theme Thursdays is a fun weekly event hosted by Reading Between the Pages
This week’s theme is
SMILE (Laugh, Grin, Giggle, Guffaw, etc)
This week was really difficult as the book I'm reading does not have any happy laughing moments really, everyone is rather depressed. But somehow I stumbled across one. My excerpt comes from 20 Fragments of a Ravenous Youth by Xiaolu Guo
"At the counter I ordered a red-bean ice-cream, then picked a table in the corner. Next to me was a giggling collective of teenagers, deep in conversation about TV star Little Swallow over their Big Macs."
I love the cover!
ReplyDeleteI like the image of the "giggling collective of teenagers." That made me smile.

Yae, a giggle this time. For some reason I thought the book will be a laugh riot (guess, the cover did it or the name), but after your comment I am surprised.
ReplyDeleteNice pick this week!

Red bean ice cream? Not sure that sounds very good at all but you gotta love giggling teenagers.

Oh, I really like that! Although red-bean ice cream sounds a bit questionable . . . But, then again, red beans are on the sweeter side ^_~ Awesome choice!

ReplyDeleteThanks to everyone for such a warm welcome. I didn't know what GFC was but after a quick google I have added a widget on the right :)
ReplyDeleteYes red bean icecream does sound strange. I've tried wasabe, sesame and green tea icecream before but never red bean.
Red bean ice cream doesn't sound very good to me. It's a shame it's such a hard read.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to find a "smile" too. Had to wait for a new book.
